Former Canary turned TV/radio pundit Danny "I say it how I see it" Mills infuriated the Canary faithful after City beat Spurs in February with his comments on Match Of The Day 2. "In the first half Norwich were nervous, Spurs dominated possession" and "The first half was a non-event" were a couple of his observations of a game he couldn't possibly have seen much of. "Van Wolfswinkel has had 4 shots on target in 14 games, for a multi-million pound striker that's poor" was another one of his "observations". However the flop of the season actually left the field to a standing ovation from the Norwich fans who appreciated his work-rate, a rare achievement for the Dutch striker this season.

Mills clearly still has a grudge against the club that helped him launch his career. Indeed this is the man who has slagged us off in the past with comments like, "Some people at Norwich were glad to see the back of me because they didn't think I was good enough and I'm delighted to prove them wrong" and "I've always had belief in myself and now I'm playing for a top Premiership club (Leeds United). I'm glad they (Norwich) are now eating humble pie."

Prior to the World Cup Mills suggested that John Ruddy should be omitted from the England squad in favour of Stoke City's 21 year old goalkeeper Jack Butland "because he (Butland) would benefit from the experience." Ruddy probably didn't deserve to be selected for the World Cup but Butland has already got experience of a major tournament (Euro 2012) at Ruddy's expense of course. Mills probably said it just to rile us up again and his comments certainly got to me. Now everytime I see him on TV or hear his voice on the radio I have to switch off.

I was never a massive fan of Danny "I say it how I see it" Mills but I respect that he's done some charity work and is a patron of Shine (formerly the Association for Spina Bifida And Hydrocephalus), raising money since the death of his son Archie in 2002. However it could be argued that he would never have gained 19 full England caps if Gary Neville had not missed the 2002 World Cup Finals through injury. In fact it was Mills' mistake that led to Niclas Alexandersson's equaliser for Sweden in England's opening game.

Mills at best was an average right-back cum centre-half and Mike Walker obviously knew what he was doing when he let the former Sprowston High School pupil join Charlton Athletic in March 1998 for a fee of £350,000 (which included a 25% sell on clause). Just over a year later he signed for Leeds ("The club I love") for £4.1m and shortly afterwards received his first England call-up. He also played for Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Hull and Derby before announcing his retirement live on BBC Five Live in August 2009.

In October 2013 Mills was named in new FA chairman Greg Dyke's task force charged with reviving the fortunes of English football and the national side. Other members of the task force included Glenn Hoddle, Dario Gradi, and Howard Wilkinson. Mills had apparently impressed Dyke with his suggestions for change. However Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker was far from impressed. He described the majority of Dyke's team as "pointless" and that he had expected better from the former Director-General of the BBC. Mills (realising that Lineker's comments were partly aimed towards him) challenged the former England goalscoring legend to leave "the sanctuary of the Match Of The Day studio" and "put some ideas on the line."

Mills is a classic example of how the BBC's punditry has gone downhill with the major loss of Alan Hansen and the blandness of Kevin Kilbane, Phil Neville and Michael Owen etc. ITV now lead the way with the likes of Andy Townsend, Lee Dixon and former England manager Glenn Hoddle. Mills should learn to get over his obvious issues with Norwich City and concentrate on watching matches in full and smile for a change!
