I refused to give into the Alex Neil out bandwagon for as long as I could. However, after the 3-2 home defeat by Leeds United (5/11/16) I had to admit it was time for him to be replaced. Apparently sacking Neil would cost the Canaries a lot of money but Delia Smith and the rest of her unambitious board have got to look at the big picture and realise that delaying a change as long as they have been (as I write the Canaries have just lost for the 8th time out of 12 matches) will result in the Canaries finishing the season in the bottom half of the table. I will be the first person to admit that I thought Neil was one of the best young managers around when he got us promoted via the play offs. However his decision making and poor performance in the transfer window has made me realise that he is out of his depth. There have been several occasions when he has made mistakes (especially with substitutions) but instead of learning from them has made the same mistakes again. Neil has remained loyal to certain players who have had chance after chance including the likes of Russell Martin, Sebastian Bassong and Robbie Brady who should have been sold after the Euros. Playing players out of position has never worked as far as I can remember and Neil, like his predecessor Neil Adams is guilty of this, the obvious examples being Martin and Brady. If Martin Olsson is so good, why does Neil prefer playing Brady ahead of "the best left-back in the Championship"? Is Alex Neil living in fantasy land? When Alex Tettey is in the team (when fit) it doesn't fill me with confidence either. He is always getting booked and his distribution is poor. However, as soon as he has recovered from injury Tettey is straight back in the team. Neil has an obsession with wide men which is baffling. Why did he sign Sergi Canos from Liverpool and then Alex Pritchard from Spurs when he already had Matt Jarvis (always injured), the Murphy twins and Robbie Brady? Why omit Pritchard completely from the squad only a couple of games after his man of the match performance against Brentford? I think it's fair to say that Neil totally lost the fans when he substituted Nelson Oliveira with Cameron Jerome against Huddersfield on December 16th. Admittedly Oliveira has an abysmal goalscoring record, he has a career average of only 1 goal in 6. However he had scored in each of his last 3 appearances and was on a roll, so replacing him was crazy. What he needed was support up front from someone like Wes Hoolahan who strangely remained on the bench. Amazingly Neil did exactly the same thing in the next game against Reading on Boxing Day straight after Oliveira had scored! What the squad needs is a massive overhaul but a new manager with fresh ideas is what is needed to carry out this task. We need someone who can teach the Norwich defenders the basic art of defending and especially how to defend a set-piece! Who would replace Neil realistically? Who could we afford? Obviously not Roy Hodgson (but I wouldn't want him anyway) but what about Tim Sherwood who is currently director of football at Swindon for his ex Norwich team mate Lee Power? Maybe Sherwood is too well known and out of our league? Something needs to be be done and soon. I don't want us to end up like Ipswich.Sorry but Alex Neil has to go!
